Earlier this year, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency began regulating emissions of greenhouse gases from stationary sources—such as power plants—as pollutants under the federal Clean Air Act. The agency determined that such gases, including carbon dioxide, pose a threat to public health and welfare. This move came despite widespread objections from congressional, state and electric industry leaders. Trinity Valley Electric Cooperative is joining with electric co-ops nationally to ask Congress for a much-needed timeout—a two-year moratorium on EPA regulation of carbon dioxide emissions.
